1. Information on how to enter and the scholarship to be awarded form part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
2. The Promoter is the American Institute For Foreign Study, Inc. (AIFS Abroad) (1 High Ridge Park, Stamford, CT 06905)
3. This promotion is only open to legal residents of the United States aged 18 years or older at the time of submission (19 in AL, DE or NE, 21 in MS). Employees (and their immediate families) of the Promoter or any companies in the Promoter’s group of companies and agencies associated with this promotion (including but not limited to advertising, promotion and production agencies) are ineligible to enter. Immediate family means any of the following: spouse, ex-spouse, de-facto spouse, child or step-child (whether natural or by adoption), parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister, in-laws or first cousin.
4. Promotion commences at 4:00pm ET, April 25, 2024, and closes at 11:59pm ET, October 7, 2024 (Promotional Period). The Promoter reserves the right to extend this period at any time, in its sole discretion.
5. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of submissions and applicants (including an applicant’s identity, age and place of residence) and to disqualify any applicant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who tampers, or attempts to tamper, with the submission process.
6. Errors and omissions may be accepted at the Promoter’s discretion. Failure of the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
7. Incomplete, indecipherable, or incomprehensible, submissions will be deemed invalid.
8. Scholarship recipients will be announced on the AIFS Abroad blog.
9. by no later than November 1, 2024 at 5:00pm ET.
How to Enter
10. To enter, applicants must, within the Promotional Period, apply to one of the eligible AIFS Study Abroad Spring Semester 2025 programs and submit a 2-minute video of themselves explaining “how they will make the world a better place as a result of studying abroad.”
11. All applicants who have applied to an eligible AIFS Abroad Study Abroad Spring Semester 2025 program before the start of the Promotional Period will be entered in this scholarship if they submit the required video during the Promotional Period.
12. Videos must be submitted through the student’s AIFS Abroad portal account. Submissions not containing all required information will not be considered. Students who have already applied for one of the selected AIFS Abroad Spring 2025 programs are still required to submit a video to be considered.
Judging
13. A panel, chosen by the Promoter, in its sole discretion, will evaluate all valid scholarship application submissions and select sixty (60) scholarship recipients.
14. The 60 recipients will be announced following the end of the Promotional Period, by no later than November 1, 2024 at 5:00pm ET.
15. The decision of the panel will be final and binding on all applications.
Notice & Acceptance
16. All scholarship recipients will be notified individually via email and then publicly announced on the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS) Abroad blog. Each recipient will also receive an email informing them that they are one of 60 scholarship recipients.
17. Each recipient will be required to: (a) provide their full mailing address, which address must be within the United States; (b) sign and return a release of liability, declaration of eligibility, and/or, where lawful, a publicity release permitting the Promoter and its affiliates to use their name, voice and likeness for advertising and promotion (without further compensation), in the Promoter’s sole discretion; and (c) verify their Social Security Number or other taxpayer identification number.
Scholarship
18. The 60 recipients will receive: a $2,500 scholarship to be applied to one of the eligible AIFS Study Abroad Spring Semester 2025 programs.
19. The scholarship awarded to the recipients does NOT include: spending money, meals, taxes, travel insurance, passports, visas, vaccinations, transfers in destination and to and from the airport, excess baggage, fuel levies and surcharges, or any other travel related expenses and/or add-ons, including items of a personal nature, in-room charges and/or any other ancillary costs. All such costs and expenses will be and remain the sole responsibility of the scholarship recipients.
20. The scholarship is valid for one of the eligible AIFS Study Abroad Spring Semester 2025 programs.
21. The Promoter reserves the right to change the list of eligible AIFS Study Abroad Spring Semester 2025 programs at any time and from time to time, in its sole discretion.
22. Each scholarship recipient is responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary and valid travel documentation as indicated by AIFS Study Abroad’s program terms and conditions. The recipient will be responsible for any and all costs and expenses incurred in obtaining necessary travel documentation, including any fines or penalties that may be incurred as a result of not having the requisite travel documentation.
23. If the AIFS Study Abroad Spring Semester 2025 program selected by a recipient is not available, then the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to work with the recipient to select a substitute AIFS Study Abroad Spring Semester 2025 program, subject to any written directions from a governmental or regulatory authority.
24. Scholarships are not transferable, non-refundable, nor exchangeable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other goods or services.
Liability/Terms and Conditions
25. By submitted an entry in this promiotion, each applicant and their heirs, successors and assigns (each, a “Releasor”) releases, forever discharges and holds harmless the Promoter, the sponsor of any scholarship, any other persons or entities involved in this promotion, each of its and their respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliates, and each of its and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from any liability for any losses, damages or costs of any kind whatsoever (“Losses”) arising out of or resulting from (a) his or her registration or inability to participate in this promotion, (b) lost or delayed data transmission, and/or (c) any other error in the administration of this promotion, due to any cause, including, but not limited to, any technical malfunction, failure, interruption or defect of the Promoter’s computer systems or servers, or any network, equipment, software, or due to human error, or any combination of the any of the foregoing.
26. Each Releasor further releases and holds harmless all Released Parties from any liability for any Losses arising out of (a) any determination by the Promoter to disqualify a Releasor for any reason, including, but not limited to, a violation of these Terms and Conditions or applicable laws; (b) the acceptance, delivery, receipt, possession or use of a scholarship; (c) any injury or damage to any computer or other device related to or resulting from Releasor’s participation in this promotion; and/or (d) any conditions arising from events beyond the Promoter’s control.
27. WITHOUT LIMITING THE GENERALITY OF THE FOREGOING, NEITHER THE PROMOTER NOR ANY OF THE RELEASED PARTIES SHALL BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, PUNITIVE, EXEMPLARY, AND/OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THIS PROMOTION, HOWSOEVER CAUSED, WHETHER ARISING IN STATUTE, TORT, CONTRACT, OR OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND REGARDLESS OF WHETHER SUCH RELEASED PARTY WAS ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. ALL SUCH DAMAGES ARE HEREBY DISCLAIMED AND EXCLUDED.
General
28. If this promotion is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated for any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any applicant; or (b) to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the promotion, as appropriate.
29. The Promoter may (but is not obliged to) at any time reject or disqualify or invalidate any submission that it considers (in its sole judgment) violates these Terms and Conditions. The Promoter will have no liability to applicants in that regard.
30. The use of any automated entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that allows an applicant to automatically enter repeatedly is prohibited and will render all entries submitted by that applicant invalid.
31. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promoter: (a) is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any computer equipment, software, technical problems or traffic congestion on any computer system or at any website, or any combination thereof, including (but not limited to) any injury or damage to participants or any other person’s property related to or resulting from participation in this promotion; (b) accepts no responsibility for any incorrect or inaccurate information, either caused by applicants, by third parties, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in connection with this promotion, or by any technical error that may occur in the course of this Promotion; and (c) accepts no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access.
32. To the fullest extent permitted by law and without limiting any other conditions of entry, the Promoter may, in its sole discretion, terminate, cancel, modify or suspend this promotion at any time for any reason. All applicants participating in this promotion at the point of termination, modification or suspension of the promotion will be notified by email. In the event of any modification or suspension of the promotion, the applicant may choose to terminate their participation in the promotion at no cost.
33. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from the award of a scholarship. Independent financial advice should be sought.
34. As a condition of accepting the scholarship, each scholarship recipient must sign any legal documentation as and in the form required by the Promoter in its sole discretion, including but not limited to a legal release and indemnity form.
35. The Promoter may, for an indefinite period, unless otherwise advised, use the information provided by each applicant for promotional, marketing, publicity, research and profiling purposes. Applicants should direct any request to opt out, access, update or correct information to the Promoter.
Videos
36. Each applicant should make certain that their video is no longer than 2 minutes and that they either own or otherwise have the right to use all music and images included in the video. Videos may not contain or include any inappropriate language, images, or sounds.
37. Submitted videos may be used at any time in other AIFS Abroad marketing campaigns, including, but not limited to, on the web, in social media, in any blog, and in emails.
38. Videos will not be returned and will become the property of AIFS Abroad. Applicant grants to AIFS Abroad the right to use videos and other submitted materials for marketing and advertising purposes across all AIFS Abroad and/or affiliated organizations.
39. By submitting a video in this promotion, each applicant represents and warrants that they have the right to grant any and all rights provided herein, free and clear of all claims and encumbrances, without violating the rights of any other person or entity.
40. Each applicant further represents to the Promoter that: (a) their video is original with the applicant and was not copied from any other source; (b) neither their video nor any right, title or interest therein is subject to any lien, claim, license, royalty arrangement or dispute of any kind or nature; (c) their video does not and will not contain any matter that infringes upon or violates any copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other proprietary right of a third party, or that is libelous, injurious, violates any right of privacy or publicity, or that otherwise violates any law; and (d) to the best of the applicant's knowledge, no claim of any such infringement or violation has been threatened or asserted against the applicant, directly or indirectly
Miscellaneous
41. Each applicant agrees that any dispute relating to this promotion, any scholarship and/or these Terms and Conditions shall be resolved individually without class action and exclusively by the state and federal courts located in the State of Connecticut, USA, without regard to any state’s conflict of laws principles.
42. The Promoter reserves the right to change these Terms and Conditions at any time and from time to time. If that should happen, the Promoter will post the changed Terms and Conditions on its website so that applicants, potential applicants and the public will always be able to understand the terms and conditions that apply to this promotion.
