1. Sponsor
These are the Official Rules of the American Institute for Foreign Study, Inc.’s Refer-a-Friend Program (the “Referral Program”). The Sponsor of the Referral Program is American Institute for Foreign Study, Inc. (“AIFS”), located at 1 High Ridge Road, Stamford, CT 06905. AIFS can be contacted at (203) 399-5000. The Referral Program is subject to these Official Rules.
2. Referral Program Details
AIFS Abroad is offering a $250 program balance discount to applicants who successfully refer another applicant (“friend”) to an eligible AIFS Abroad program. The referred applicant will also receive a $250 discount on their program balance, subject to the following conditions:
- ✦ The referred applicant must be a new applicant to AIFS Abroad at the time of referral.
- ✦ The Referral Program applies only to in-person study abroad and internship programs. Virtual, custom group and faculty-led programs are excluded.
- ✦ Both the referrer and the referred applicant must complete enrollment, which includes either:
- ✧ Submitting a $500 deposit, or
- ✧ Confirming enrollment through the AIFS Abroad portal if part of a school billing arrangement.
- ✦ The referral discount will be applied to the program balance due and cannot be applied to the application fee or initial deposit.
- ✦ The referral discount may be combined with other eligible AIFS Abroad discounts.
- ✦ A single referrer may earn a maximum of five (5) referral discounts, up to a total of $1,250 in referral rewards.
3. Eligibility
- ✦ The Referral Program is open to current applicants who refer new applicants. The referring and referred applicant must be enrolled in a future term.
- ✦ Referred applicants must enroll in an eligible AIFS Abroad program for the referral to be considered valid.
- ✦ To qualify, the referred applicant must submit the name of the person referring them on Page 1 of the AIFS Abroad application.
- ✦ This discount cannot be retroactively applied to a completed program or program in process.
- ✦ AIFS Abroad program alumni are not eligible as their program has concluded.
4. Miscellaneous
- a. Binding Agreement
By participating in the Referral Program, referrers and referred applicants unconditionally agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of AIFS, which shall be final and binding. AIFS reserves the right to disqualify any participant who, in its sole discretion, tampers with the referral process, violates these Official Rules, or acts in a disruptive manner.
- b. Program Modifications and Termination
AIFS reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Referral Program at any time, for any reason, without prior notice, provided that no changes will be made contrary to governing law.
- c. Compliance with Laws
All applicable federal, state, and local laws apply. Any applicable taxes on referral rewards are the sole responsibility of the recipient.
- d. Limitations of Liability
AIFS, including its employees, officers, directors, agents, and representatives, shall not be responsible for:
- ✧ Late, lost, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or unintelligible referrals.
- ✧ Any technical malfunctions, interruptions, or failures of any kind.
- ✧ Any injuries, losses, or damages resulting from participation in the Referral Program.
- ✧ Any printing or typographical errors in any materials related to the Referral Program.
- e. Dispute Resolution
APPLICANTS AND RECIPIENTS AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE RELATING TO THE REFER-A-FRIEND PROGRAM SHALL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY WITHOUT CLASS ACTION AND EXCLUSIVELY BY THE STATE AND FEDERAL COURTS LOCATED IN CONNECTICUT, WITHOUT REGARD TO ANY STATE’S CONFLICT OF LAWS PRINCIPLES.
Applicants and recipients further agree that:
- ✧ Any claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including those associated with applying for a program, but in no event shall include attorneys’ fees.
- ✧ Under no circumstances will any applicant or recipient be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, consequential, or other special damages.
- f. Severability
If any provision of these Official Rules is deemed invalid or unenforceable, it shall be modified to the extent necessary to render it valid and enforceable, and the remainder of the Official Rules shall remain in full force and effect.
- g. Waiver of Liability and Indemnification
By participating in the Referral Program, each participant and their heirs, successors, and assigns (the “Participant Party”) releases, forever discharges, and covenants not to make a claim against or sue AIFS, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, licensees, employees, officers, directors, representatives, successors, and assigns (the “Released Parties”) for any claims, damages, or losses arising from participation in the Referral Program.
Participant Party further agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any liabilities, claims, demands, costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees), and expenses arising from any breach by Participant Party of these Official Rules.
- h. No Warranties or Endorsements
AIFS makes no warranties or representations regarding any third-party services or goods offered in connection with the Referral Program.
